Former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder, David Beckham, has joined Paris Saint-Germain on a five-month deal.
“I am very lucky. I’m 37 years old and I got a lot of offers, more offers now than I have had in my career. I chose PSG because I can see what the club is trying to do and what players are coming in. It’s an exciting city. PSG is a club that is going to have a lot of success over the next 10 or 20 years. I’m not saying I’m going to be playing in 10 or 20 years, but for now I’m very honoured I have been picked to be part of the future of PSG,” he said.
Beckham, who will be earning 150,000 a week, will donate his entire wages to a children’s charity in Paris.
He said: “Obviously, it’s a very good figure,” he says. “Like I said, that’s one thing we’re very excited about, to be able to give a huge sum to a children’s charity in Paris. It’s special.”
When he was asked why he did not join the PSG last year, he replied: “I felt last year that I still had something to achieve in Los Angeles. I won the championship in the last year of my contract. Yes, I spoke to Leonardo a number of times, but I think we both came to the thought that it wasn’t the right time. So we parked it but right now is the right time.”
The 37-year-old also confirmed at the press conference, that his family will remain in London.
