Onetime National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Olisa Metuh, on Thursday informed a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja that he will not proceed with his trial.
The former PDP spokesperson made the disclosure shortly after Justice Okon Abang rejected his application seeking the appearance of former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd) to appear as his witness.
Earlier, the trial judge had accused Metuh of delaying the trial by using all manner of tactics including adjournments beyond the five stipulated adjournment under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA,2015.
Frowning at the ruling, Metuh’s lawyer, Onyechi Ikpeazu said, “The court has in a very surprising manner accused the first defendant of using all manner of delay tactics.
“There is absolutely no way the first defendant will continue with his trial any further in the court.”
The former PDP spokesperson is currently facing trial before the Justice Abang-led court for allegedly receiving the sum of N400 million from Dasuki.
According to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, the money was part of the fund meant for the procurement of arms for the military prosecuting the war against Boko Haram terrorists in the North East.
Metuh had in December 2016 filed an application seeking the court to compel the former NSA to appear and testify in his trial.
