Afenifere Renewal Group, ARG, has condemned the abduction of 110 students of the Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State. It said the development has again brought to the fore the urgent need for restructuring of the country.
In a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Kunle Famoriyo, ARG noted the incident was a sad reminder of the kidnap of Chibok girls.
“Who would have thought we would have ‘Dapchi’ to contend with less than five years after Chibok incident?
”The folly of kicking against true federalism matters like state police is the needless loss of young Nigerian lives.
”We cannot like the ostrich continue to bury our heads in the sand.”
The group said it was high time the government considered “effective border control measures”.
ARG also re-emphasised the need for the federal government “to urgently restructure Nigeria by unbundling the Exclusive Legislative List”.
Meanwhile, the federal government has reacted to claims that parents of the missing schoolgirls were not part of the stakeholders’ meeting held in Damaturu.
Shuaibu Bulama, Director Schools Management in the Ministry of Information, said the statement is not true and lacks substance.
