Danjuma’s comments: Military trivialized, sectionalized – Ntufam Ukweni

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, SAN, Ntufam Mba Ekpezu Ukweni, has alleged that the Nigeria Military had become trivialized, sectionalized and that promotions were now done on ethnic basis.

Speaking to DAILY POST on Tuesday, the SAN regretted that the “Nigeria military as it is today is not what we observed at as Independence. Nigeria military has been trivialized, sectionalized and you see promotion being done on ethnic basis.

“If the military want to treat T. Y. Danjuma’s statement with kid groves, it means that they are not serious about the security of this country; we are all here in Nigeria and we know what is going on and all of us know that even the police are not policing us.”

He added that “self-defence is the 1st law of nature; so the military should not think that Nigerians should not protect themselves if they are doing nothing.

“I am not generalizing; there are serious minded officers in the military but generally speaking, they must accept the fact that Nigeria military as it is today, is not what we observed at the Independence

“So, nobody should doubt the fact that certain people will be posted to certain areas, purposely to assist in doing certain things; if the military authority wants to take Danjuma’s statement and treat it with kid gloves, it means they are not serious and Nigerians have to look inward for alternative.

“There is nothing that has no alternative; if the military is not protecting us, Nigerians have to resort to other methods of protecting themselves.”

“We have a case of the Fulani herdsmen which has reached down south, and a deputy commissioner of police in the state CID did not hide her feeling about the fact that Buhari is a Fulani man and the commissioner of Police is also a Fulani man. She will do everything to protect a Fulani man.

“What about the one they killed somebody in Itighidi, was it not a DPO who insisted that the community must give a land to herdsmen before something is done, so is that not collusion?

“Lt. Gen. Theophilus Danjuma’s statement must be taken very seriously and investigated and if the military want to be taken seriously, they have to investigate what he said and re-assess themselves in order to regain the confidence people have in them,” he said.

On the lopsided appointment of service chiefs, the SAN said “that is a clear indication that there is collusion, if every service chief in the country is Fulani man, is that not an indication of collusion?

“I have said it before that the corruption that this government is fighting should not only be about stealing; many lopsided appointments, promotion of persons that are not due for promotion, where there are people who merit promotion but not given, is also corruption.

“Corruption has many faces, so if the government is not ruling properly and it is doing thing in a lopsided manner, it is an aspect of corruption.”

“In a multi ethnic country as Nigeria, all the service chiefs are from one tribe, not even North and when Danjuma raised alarm, they tried to clamp down on him, how can they do that, that is my position,” he stated.
