Governor Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe State has urged residents of Damaturu, the state capital and all people across the state to be ‘extra-vigilant’ with what is happening in their environments and communities in order to be able to spot any potential troublemaker before the person could carry out anything that will be harmful to the people.
The governor spoke yesterday while addressing members and officials of the State Council of the National Union of Roads Transport Workers (NURTW) during a visit to the Damaturu Central Motor Park to commiserate with the union as well as families and relations of victims of the suicide bomb attack which occurred at the motor park last Sunday.
“What happened here last Sunday was heinous and barbaric. Up to 15 people lost their lives and over 50 were injured. It’s sad and we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of victims and our sympathies and prayers to those who were injured.
“While we cannot control when or where a terror attack might happen, we can go a long way to prevent and even stop these barbaric acts by being extra vigilant; by keenly observing what is happening around our environments. We should be careful and try to note anyone that comes in and goes out. And we should report immediately to the security agents if and whenever we see anything suspicious or potentially harmful”, the governor said.
The governor also visited the State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu where some of the injured are receiving medical attention.
The governor was told by the health commissioner that all victims were treated free of charge and that those in very critical condition were referred to the Federal Medical Center, Nguru.
Governor Gaidam commiserated with the victims and prayed Almighty God to give them quick recovery.
The governor also urged the health ministry officials to continue to provide whatever support the victims needed to help them recover quickly, at government’s expense.
