Dakuku Peterside emerges APC governorship candidate in Rivers

Reports coming from Rivers state has it that the All Progressives Congress in the state has selected a consensus candidate to run for the 2015 Governorship election.

DAILY POST gathered that elders of the APC in the state settled for the Lawmaker representing Andoni-Opobo-Nkoro at the Federal House of Representatives, Dakuku Peterside to run for the exalted position.

Report available to DAILY POST says the other favourite, Senator Magnus Abe was at the meeting when the decision to select Peterside was reached.

The name of Dakuku Peterside will now be sent to the state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi for ratification.

Peterside was a former Commissioner for works during the first tenure of Amaechi.

Interestingly, the APC consensus candidate hails from the same community with the current Chief of Army Staff, Kenneth Minimah.

Following the selection of Peterside, it is now unclear what the fate of the Ogonis that have been clamouring for “justice and equity” will be.

However, a reliable source who was present at the meeting told DAILY POST that the elders are rooting for the dogged Deputy Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Leyii Kwanee who is from Ogoni.

In the meantime, no statement has come from the office of the Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.
