The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to the raid of Daily Trust regional office in Maiduguri, Borno State by armed soldiers on Sunday.

DAILY POST had reported that the soldiers shut the gate of the Maiduguri regional office, after arresting two editorial staff.

As of the time of filing this report, it was still unclear why they took the action, but it may be connected with the lead story of the newspaper on military operation in the North East.

But reacting, Atiku while condemning the raid on his Twitter page, called for ‘freedom of the press.

He said, “I have received with concern news of the sealing of Daily Trust corporate headquarters in Abuja. Freedom of the press is the bedrock of our democracy and nothing should be done to compromise it.

“If Daily Trust as an institution or any of its staff is in breach of the law, I recommend that due process be followed and not a resort to the jackboot.”
