DAILY POST Correspondent emerges Assistant Secretary of NUJ, Cross River

The Cross River State Correspondent of DAILY POST, Edem Edem, has emerged the assistant secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Cross River State Council.

Edem Edem emerged alongside Comrade Victor Odu Chairman, Oka Ibor Secretary and Benson White as Treasurer.

Swearing the winners of the election, the Zonal Secretary Zone F, Dr Bassey Eyoh, who represented the National President, Chief Chris Isiguzo thanked members for having a peaceful change of power.

Inaugurating the new executive council on Monday at the Earnest Etim-Bassey Press Center in Calabar, the National President however called on the newly re-elected executive to work assiduously in ensuring that there was peace in the council, “This was the only way the council would progress”

Speaking, the re-elected chairman of the council, Mr Victor Odu thanked members for given the EXCO the opportunity to serve the second time.

Odu said life was too short for anyone to bear animosity in his heart because he learnt a lot in his first tenure, which had prepared him for greater responsibility subsequently.

He said in his second tenure, the union would be setting up a formidable welfare committee to help the members of the union in need and look into the development of the union’s landed property in Marian Boulevard.

“This tenure, I intend to touch the lives of the majority of our members and we are open to constructive criticism but not blackmail. We must strengthen our relationship with the government and other agencies to enhance the activities of the council”, he said.

According to the chairman, in few weeks, a by-election would be held to fill in other positions in the council executive. He said he had no candidate as all members were free to vie for any position that was available while charging every chapel to go back and conduct their election.

He thanked the National President of the union Chief Chris Isiguzo for attending the burial of the former chairman of the Cross River Council of the union Mr Ndoma Akpet and his love for the Cross River Council. The candidates were re-elected as their tenure expired on May 4, 2019.
