Head coach of Nigeria’s women basketball team, Scott Nnaji, has said that lack of funds stopped their quest to qualify for this year’s Olympic Games.
In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on his return from the Olympic Qualifiers in France, Nnaji insisted that his team did their best, but lacked financial motivation.
He said: “We were due to play some international friendly matches but unfortunately could not.
“However, the team gave a very good account of themselves winning one match out of the two group matches they played.
“We have to learn from this unfortunately.
“It would have been wonderful if we had qualified because of the quality of young players we have discovered.”
D’Tigress lost 71-60 to Belarus, before defeating South Korea 70-69. However, Korea’s 65-55 win over Belarus ended their ambitions of featuring in Rio.
