The Lagos State Government has ordered that the two pharmacists, acquitted last week of having hands in the gruesome murder of Cynthia Osokogu Udoka be re-arrested.
This was made know on Wednesday by the Lagos State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Mr. Ade Ipaye, during a press briefing to keep the general public updated on the murder case.
It would be recalled that seven persons were arrested by security personnel in connection with the murder of Cynthia at a hotel in FESTAC Town by friends she met via popular social network site -Facebook.
Among the suspects nabbed were two pharmacists, Orji Osita and Maduakor Chukwunonso.
However, they were ordered to be freed on the advice of the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) last week. However, a magistrate court, sitting in Yaba, Lagos later ordered that Osita be re-arrested based on the new directive from the same Director of Public Prosecution.
Ipayeon Wednesday confirmed the re-arrest of Osita while saying that the state was ready to prosecute all those found guilty in the murder to book.
The Commissioner however stated that fresh facts available indicated that one of the pharmacists had hands in the murder of the retired General’s daughter.
He said, “The pharmacist that was released was the one that sold the drug and not the pharmacist that persuaded the other to sell the drug used on the deceased,” he said.
He vowed that anyone found guilty in connection with Cynthia’s murder would be arraigned before the court and that the charges against each of them would be determined by the level of their guilt.
Ipaye also disclosed that the charges against those involved in the sale of Cynthia’s Blackberry phone would be different from those who murdered her.
The Atoney-General also added that they’ve been advised on the matter and that the suspects would soon appear before the court.
