Customs embarks on major re-shuffle, redeploys 48 Comptrollers

The Nigeria Customs Service has announced a major re-shuffle of its management.

A statement by the Customs spokesperson, Joseph Attah, said the the Comptroller-General, Hameed Ali, has approved the immediate redeployment of 48 Comptrollers.

The statement says the redeployment is in line with the ongoing reforms of the service.

Those redeployed according to the statement include; M. J. Madugu, who was moved from Sokoto/Kebbi/Zamfara Command to Ogun; E.A. Udo-aka, from investigation department to Oyo/Osun Command, and K. Isiyaku of Tariff has now been moved to Trade Department at Port Harcourt 1 Command, and others.

The statement disclosed further that the comptroller-general’s compliance team has been reorganized and the new team divided into three. Team ‘A’ for Western Axis, ‘B’ for Northern axis, and ‘C’ for Eastern axis.

Mr. Attah said the three teams would support the Federal Operations Units in order to tackle all forms of smuggling activities nationwide, with particular focus on the enforcement of non-importation of rice and vehicles through the land borders.

He said the new CGC’s Compliance team would be coordinated by A. Azarema, who was prior to this development the Comptroller License and Permit at the Customs headquarters.

Each of the axis would be headed by Assistant Comptrollers of Customs.

The CG said he was determined to strategically reposition the Service as a crucial in order to block revenue leakages.
