A man simply identified as Omajuwa, alias Power, has been reportedly shot dead during a cult clash in Ubeji community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The deceased, who was in his mid-twenties, was shot dead at school road junction on Sunday Night, DAILY POST can report.
It is not clear if the victim was a member of any of the cult groups in the area as the names of two cults which clashed is still unknown.
The Chairman of Ubeji community, Comrade Clement Erewa, in a telephone with our correspondent, said the matter was not a cult clash as was being speculated.
While noting that the people whom the incident occurred in their presence were telling lies, Comrade Erewa admitted that someone was shot dead at the above location in Ubeji community.
Erewa said some boys at a drinking bar got drunk and started misbehaving and the anti-cult group arrested one to the cell.
Later, a group of boys came demanding why their friend was arrested which resulted in a serious argument and fighting.
Erewa did not state if it was the anti-cult group that shot dead the deceased whose remains has been deposited in the morgue.
DAILY POST correspondent, who visited the community on Monday night, reports that there is a palpable apprehension among indigenes and residents.
When contacted, the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Adeyinka Adeleke, in a telephone chat with our correspondent, confirmed the report.
CP Adeleke said, “One who was shot dead by cultists, it’s true.”
