Cultists ‘on revenge mission’ kill businessman in Delta

Cultists believed to be members of Eiye confraternity terrorising Ughelli community in Delta State have allegedly killed a 35-year-old businessman, Onoriode Morphy, in Eruemukogharien town, Ughelli in what appeared to be avenge attack.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, in the state, Andrew Aniamaka, who confirmed the incident to DAILY POST, said, “the victim from our investigation, is a member of the vickings confraternity. Suspects shot him directly on his chest on Thursday evening when they stormed his house on a revenge mission although his family members denied he was never a member of any cult group. Investigation is ongoing while his corpse has been deposited at Ughelli General Hospital mortuary. We have arrested four persons in connection with the gruesome murder, and they are being detained for further investigation”.

Unconfirmed sources said the victim was killed for trying to escape after he allegedly led members of the vickings to murder a member of rival confraternity.

With fear of the unknown currently griping the community and its environs, some residents, who spoke to DAILY POST on condition of anonymity, said, “We are appealing to the security agents and the state government to come to our aid. We now sleep with one eye open. Every day, these cultists shoot sporadically, and everybody will run into the house. We want 24-hour patrol of the police in the entire Ughelli community.”

Meanwhile, the state Police Command on Friday stated that detectives have been deployed to arrest persons behind the murder of a policeman on the Kpakiama / Olodiama road in Bomadi town.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mustafa Muhammad, who spoke to DAILY POST, said, “We received the news of the death of the officer who was on his official duty with shock. The Command will do everything possible to bring to book those behind the act.”
