Residents of Ile-Ife were on Monday placed in a state of fear as rival cut groups in a struggle for supremacy clashed in the town.
It was gathered that the cultists took over the Iloro and Otutu area of the town at about 8pm, shooting sporadically at each other.
The cult group numbering about 20 shot in each other’s direction which is just some distance away in Otutu area.
It was gathered that an aggrieved cult group which had earlier lost one of its leader to the other group launched a reprisal attack.
As a result of the battle, heavy casualties were recorded though the list could not be ascertained.
Confirming the incident, the Commissioner of Police in the State, Mr Valentine Ntomchukwu said officers have been deployed to the scene of the attack, adding that normalcy has been restored to the area.
