A suspected cultist, identified only as Yemi has been arrested in Lagos State for allegedly killing his lover and abandoning her corpse in a well.
The 27-year-old was arrested by homicide detectives at the State Criminal Investigations Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, area of the state at the weekend.
Yemi was said to have beaten his girlfriend to death at the Igando area of the state after accusing her of dating a rival cult member in the community.
The body of the deceased was discovered when a neighbour went to the well to fetch water.
He raised the alarm, attracting attention of other tenants.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the incident to newsmen said the suspect, after committing the crime, went into his apartment and started to pack his belongings.
“He wanted to escape but was caught by residents who handed him over to Igando Police Station.
“The suspect has been arrested investigations are ongoing,” the PPRO stated, adding that the remains of the lady has been removed from the well by the officials of the State Fire Fighters and deposited at Igando General Hospital Mortuary.
