A 17-year-old female student of the Bayelsa State owned Niger Delta University, Ammassoma was on Saturday attacked by a suspected female cultist because she refused to be part of the group.
It was gathered that the cult group which was headed by one Annabel, a final year student of the Education Department of the institution, after attacking the victim in Hostel F injected her with a strange substance.
Sources from the institution say the attack was as a result of some misunderstanding among roommates, while others say the victim’s strict Christian belief was responsible for the attack.
The report says the victim due to her firm religious belief declined the advances made at her by the group believed to be mainly lesbians.
One Claire who is a friend to the victim said the incident occurred in the victim’s room at about 4am.
Her words “She was tied to a chair and severely beaten by four girls, her hair attachment was forcibly removed and she was injected with a substance that made her behave in a crazy manner for days. When the attackers saw that the girl had fainted, they brought her out of the room in the early hours of morning and they were apprehended.”
The incident was reported to the Students’ Senate Disciplinary Committee and the body has disclosed that the result of its investigation will be made public next week.
