Cult war claims four lives in two Rivers communities

At least, four persons are now feared dead following clashes between rival cult groups in Alakahia and Choba communities, Obio Akpor local government area of Rivers State.

There was apprehension when a cult leader, Chima Ibe was shot, killed and burnt Tuesday by gunmen who trailed him to a pub in Alakahia.

Less than 24 hours after, three young men were killed in an uncompleted building at Choba extension, a neighbouring community to Alakahia.

Before these incidents, there have been killings and beheading in the two communities despite hosting a Police Area Command.

The incidents have been confirmed by the Rivers state Police Command, which said the killings are cult-related.

Spokesman for the Command, DSP Nnamdi Omoni told DAILY POST in Port Harcourt, that the killings are reprisal attacks by rival cult groups.

Omoni lamented that it is unfortunate that the once peaceful Alakahia and Choba communities have become a theatre of gang wars.

While calling on the people of Alakahia to remain peaceful, the police spokesman said the command has beefed up security in the area to manage the situation.

His words, “We have been inundated with the situation in Alakahia and I can tell you that it is most unfortunate. Alakahia used to be a very peaceful community.

“We have beefed up security in those areas and we will remain there until we stabilise the situation. We have commenced investigation into what is happening there and we can say for now that the killings are cult related.

“While we do our job to provide security, we are advising the elders of those communities to talk to their children and call them to other because there boys live in the communities and they know them.”
