Cross River workers’ strike: Labour takes decision today

A decision will be taken today on whether the strike actions embarked upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Cross River State over a week ago will be called off on not.

DAILY POST reports that from all indications, the Union may likely suspend their action due to the pressure it’s getting. A source told DAILY POST that the only obstacle may be the Union’s insistence on concrete agreement with the State Government before that decision could be made.

The two Unions – NLC and TUC, led by Comrade John Ushie and Comrade Clarkson Otu respectively had demanded among other things, the payment of gratuity to retired workers and pension, removal of consultants that has messed up payment system and non-remittance of money deducted from salaries etc to respective Unions etc.

When our correspondent contacted the NLC Chairman, Comrade, John Ushie on Tuesday morning, he said the two Unions and other stake holders are meeting this morning at No 5 Marian Road Calabar, Cross River State and it is there the final decision will be taken.

Hear him, “We are meeting at No 5 Marian Road, Calabar by 10am for Workers Congress. It is better you come there to see things for yourself, then we talk there, thanks.”
