Cross River APC rejects election results

The Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has rejected the result of the governorship and state House of Assembly elections as announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

Chairman of the party in the state, Mr Usani Usani, disclosed this on Monday in Calabar, despite the position of the party’s governorship candidate, Odey Ochicha, who had called and congratulated Senator Ben Ayade, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who was announced as the winner of the poll.

According to Usani, the party decided to reject the result announced by INEC after a thorough investigation proved that the result sheets were tampered with, allegedly by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in favour of their candidates.

“The election was characterized by irregularities and my first demand is the cancellation of the election. My second demand is that the perpetrators of this illegal act should be prosecuted.

“As a progressive party, we demand the immediate release of all our members who have been beaten and kept in detention.

“Information available to me, as we speak, is that over four persons died during the polls in Mkpani community in Yakurr Local Government Area as a result of electoral violence,” he said.

He further alleged that in most of the polling units across the state, the use of card reader was not employed contrary to the directives from INEC.

The APC candidate, Ochicha, called Senator Ayade at about 11.32 a.m. on Sunday to congratulate him on his victory and assured him of his total support, promising to work with him to move Cross River State forward.

According to him, Ayade’s victory was also his (Ochicha’s) personal victory. He said: “What is most important is the progress and development of Cross River State which l am sure you can deliver.”
