Cross River 2015: NAG boosts Idagbor’s ambition with campaign office, N5m donation

A group the New Agenda Group, NAG, yesterday threw its weight behind the governorship ambition of Legor Igagbor in Cross River State when it donated a campaign office and the sum of N5million to him in Calabar, the state capital, according to a Thisday report.

While making the presentation, the Chairman of the group, Major General Moses Obi, rtd, said Cross River State needs good governance to ensure peace and security for sustainable growth and development. The occasion was attended by members of the House of Assembly, Commissioners, Special Advisers, youth groups and women organisations.

The campaign office is located along Ndidem Usang Iso Road, Calabar.

Speaking on why Idagbor should succeed Governor Liyel Imoke, Obi said for the development and progress the state has witnessed to continue, a man of substance and demonstrable developmental strides must take over the reign of governance in Cross River State in 2015.

“The race to occupy the office of the governor of Cross River State goes beyond being a politician. The state needs a visionary, human-centered, people-oriented man or woman of integrity with track records of successes to lead her to the next level of socio-economic and political development. We in the New Agenda Group have seen the good qualities of Legor Idagbor and have decided to support him to lead Cross River State to another height of good governance that would engender development across all sectors of the economy of Cross River State,” Obi stated.

Speaking on the emergence of Idagbor among other top aspirants endorsed by the caucus of the People Democratic Party (PDP), Obi praised the wisdom of Governor Liyel Imoke for putting a transparent process in place for the emergence of a credible candidate to contest the 2015 governorship election, without bickering and bloodshed.

“The political process that has so far led to the emergence of the top contestants has been transparent and devoid of meddlesomeness. The process allowed for grassroots consultation and the opportunity for all the aspirants to appear before the caucus of the PDP in all the 18 local government areas of the State. The process has been flawless, and has shown so much integrity which other states need to emulate rather than foisting candidates on the people.”

In response, the aspirant, Idagbor, appreciated PDP leadership in the state for the transparent manner that ensured his emergence.

He called on the people of the state to support him so that he can continue when voted into office with the good work Gov. Imoke has been doing in the state.

He acknowledged the giant strides of Governor Liyel Imoke in the state, saying: “the Governor would be leaving behind a very big shoe and I need the support of everybody to be able to wear that shoe and follow in his developmental footsteps.”
