Crisis: Reps want military to take over Kaduna South

The House of Representatives on Wednesday asked the Federal Government and the Kaduna State Governments to declare a state of emergency in Southern Kadunam

According to the House, military strike force should also be set up to provide security in Southern Kaduna Senatorial District.

The House also demanded the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the attacks.

The resolution was passed after six lawmakers from the state jointly moved a motion to draw attention to the latest killing of at least 44 people in Godogodo by suspected herdsmen.

The members were Shehu Garba; Simon Arabo; Gideon Gwami; Sunday Katung; Jagaba Adams-Jagaba; and Yakubu Barde.

Arabo, while leading the debate, recalled that since 2011, various communities in Southern Kaduna had been attacked by terrorists, “resulting in deaths, injuries, loss of properties and displacement of communities.”

Arabo urged the government to take the same urgent steps it took recently when Zamfara State came under similar attacks, to restore peace in Southern Kaduna.

“We are all aware of the attacks in Godogodo, between October 15 and 16; reports indicate that at least 44 people were killed.

“Why should some people continue to slaughter others for some reasons as if their lives don’t matter?

“We are all Nigerians; some people should not see their lives as superior or having more value than others,” Arabo added.

The motion identified the attackers as “Fulani terrorists.”

But, following a protest by a Fulani lawmaker from Adamawa State, Mr. Lawan Abubakar, the motion was amended to delete Fulani from the content.
