The leader of the Uvwie Council Legislative Arm, Hon. Timi Ukwuade and other principal officers have been impeached over alleged “maladministration” and “incompetence” by the house.

A new leadership headed by Hon. Victor Okoloba has also emerged.

The former leader was impeached during plenary held at the Council’s Secretariat in Effurun on Wednesday.

Moving a motion for the impeachment, Hon. Efe Ani passed a “vote of no confidence” on the leadership.

He said the leadership incompetence was slowing down legislative activities on the sixth Legislature.

The motion was also seconded by Hon. Felix Aghogho Oghomitse.

Fourteen councillors out of the nineteen quickly nominated and elected a new leadership to pilot the affairs of the sixth legislature.

Members of the new leadership of the Uvwie Council Legislative Arm included, Hon. Victor Okoloba,Hon. Austin Akemu, Hon. Efe Ani, Hon. Yokel IMovie and Hon.(Mrs.) Gracious Agbajoh as, leader Deputy leader, majority leader and Chief whip respectively.

They, thereafter, paid a courtesy visits to the Divisional Police Officers, DPO of Ebrumede and Ekpan Divisional Police Headquarters in Uvwie Council Area.

In a swift reaction, the embattled leader of the Uvwie Council Legislative Arm, Hon. Timi Ukwuade, insisted that he remains the leader of Uvwie legislative arm.

Hon. Ukwade, who was flanked by the Deputy Majority leader and other Councillors, spoke at the Uvwie Counc’s Secretariat in Effurun.

He urged the people of Uvwie Local Government to disregard the purported impeachment of the leadership, which was posted on the social media.

Hon. Ukwade said it was not possible for six out of twenty members to meet and take a decision for Uvwie legislative arm just as he questioned where the purported sitting by the members was held.

The Deputy Majority leader, Hon. Gloria Bankitu and some Councillors corroborated the claims of the leader of the Legislative Arm saying, “A meeting scheduled for Wednesday had earlier been cancelled through messages to members of the legislative arm.”
