Crisis is currently brewing among students in Ogun State as two warring groups have continued their unending battle for the soul of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS), DAILY POST reports.
A group loyal to the National Public Relations Officer of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) had returned one Olamileke Ogunronbi as the President of NAOSS, while another group announced one Saka Azeez Abidemi as a parallel President of the association.
DAILY POST gathered that Ogunronbi’s election was held at Iwe Iroyin, Okelewo; while that of Abidemi took place at NSCDC’s College of Security and Management, Oke-Mosan, all in Abeokuta.
The development led to verbal attacks among members of the two groups as they engage one another in name-calling.
Adeyemi had described the other group as “impostors”, adding that “their action amounts to ‘impersonation’ because Ogunronbi is the new NAOSS’ legitimate President.”
But the rival group, led by one Ade Bash, accused Adeyemi of disrupting the election of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS).
Ade Bash had alleged that the election that produced Ogunronbi did not follow due process as he claimed it was disrupted by hoodlums; an excuse for which he said another election was conducted at a different location.
But Adeyemi, in his reaction, described the allegations as tissues of lies; saying “the election followed due process.”
“The election held at the Iwe Iroyin on July 27 was free and fair. It was keenly contested to the extent that it dragged till nightfall.
“In the end, Olamileke Ogunronbi from Ogun State Cooperative College Ijeja-Abeokuta won, and was declared President by the Chairman of the electoral committee, who was also shielded by security officers while announcing the results.
“These people later approached the Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) College of Security and Management and misled the Provost that they wanted to have a students’ event, only for them to conduct a kangaroo election that produced Abidemi.
“We later reached out to the Provost of the college, who said the students lied to him that they wanted to organise students activities, but he didn’t know it was election they wanted to conduct.
“How could you conduct election with about 15 members on ground? What they have committed is simply impersonation.”
DAILY POST gathered that there has not been any end in sight to the rivalry between the two groups as the two Presidents and their executives still parade themselves as the leaders of NAOSS.
