The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Wednesday described any plan to create grazing fields for herdsmen as “a wicked and abominable act.”
It, therefore, called on the National Assembly to reject any bill intended to allow the creation of such field.
The Christian body, in a statement signed by the Chairman of CAN in the South-East, Most. Rev. David Eberechukwu, said herdsmen were already doing grievous harm to their host communities and that creating such fields would amount to pouring fuel into fire.
He noted that “presently, the situation is unbearable where they have become armed robbers, kidnappers, terrorists and warriors against their host communities in the nation.
“Those agitating for this wicked move should desist from it. We call on the National Assembly to desist from such a bill and see that they do not create problem that has no solution”.
Instead of grazing fields, CAN said it was recommending modern ranches, stressing “this is every where in developed countries. It will provide employment and education to the staff of the ranches.
“It is an abomination to ask States to give lands to a group of people whom you know will cause famine and war in communities.
“We call on all to reject this wicked move and do things to protect their territories from suffering an untold and untimely deaths, problems and wanton destruction of lives and properties.”
The Chairman added that “the unity of this nation is threatened and no part of this country has not had a share of the inhuman treatment of the Fulani herdsmen.
“We call on the President and the National Assembly to stop creating more problems for their citizens while trying to solve a problem that has a solution already.
“We cannot continue to tolerate unwanted killings in our various communities and towns. This grazing field issue should be stopped and let the National Assembly throw away that bill.”
