Crash: Mimiko visits Olu Falae, says he appointed late son on merit

Ondo state Governor, Olusegun Mimiko, on Wednesday visited Chief Olu Falae for the second time since his son, Deji was killed in a plane crash last week.

Mimiko, while speaking during the visit said that he appointed late Deji Falae as Commissioner purely on merit and not because of his father’s influence as a politician.

Late Deji, who would have clocked 43 yesterday, was the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in the state.

His father was former Secretary to Federal Government and former Finance Minister. In 2009, Falae contested the presidency under the Alliance for Democracy, AD, against the People’s Democratic Party’s Olusegun Obasanjo.

The Governor, who was in company of his wife, Olukemi and the National Chairman of Labour Party, Chief Dan Nwanyanwu, said, “For us in government, he was a star in every considerable dimension that you look at.

“Deji did not become Commissioner because he was Olu Falae’s son; he earned the position based on merit.

“He was appointed Commissioner based on his outstanding performance in the assignment that we gave him in that Ministry.”

Mimiko added that “Deji was an excellent Commissioner who anybody could see was an epitome of humility regardless of his family background.”
