The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has stirred reactions online following his advice to upcoming Christian Ministers to abstain from every appearance of evil.
This comes amidst the backdrop of several allegations emanating against pastors and religious leaders in the country.
Pastors in Nigeria have been in the news for the wrong reason of late, with Biodun Fatoyinbo of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, the most recent one.
Reacting in a sermon on Friday night, Adeboye warned pastors against hiding under the guise of grace to sin.
He was quoted as saying, “I feel compelled to say some things to those that are young and up and coming ministers.
“What I want to say is from the Bible: There is nothing hid that shall not come to the open or made manifest. Mark 4:22 “2. Sooner or later, your sins will find you out if you continue in sin under the guise of grace. Numbers 32:23
“3. Abstain from every appearance of evil. 1 Thessalonians 5:22.
“2 Timothy 2:22. When you find yourself facing youthful lust, flee; don’t say you’re highly anointed or something, ask Samson. You may say I’m old fashioned, I agree.I’ll never have a private secretary who’s a woman. When a woman accuses you of something, nobody will listen to you whether you’re right or wrong; be wise!
Adeboye’s statement has since stirred reactions from a cross section of Nigerians on social media
Here are some comments gathered by DAILY POST from Twitter:
@Dara_Ikotun “Please if you ain’t in Redemption camp presently, don’t type what you have no idea about. Pastor Adeboye didn’t mention any name, he just gave advice to the young ministers and never mentioned anything about Coza.”
@Iamkiddie “Pastor Adeboye is so wise, so so wise, even if he didn’t mention names we all know where he stands unlike those hypocrites going to church last week sunday saying “we love you pastor”, Grandpa shook the table broke it and used Bible scriptures to back it up.”
@Ogunleye_Oyin “Pastor Adeboye. When we blame a woman for a man’s lack of self control. Adeboye says he has never had a private secretary who is a woman. The new testament encourages self control. Should we then have a country of only men in order for us not to fall into a woman’s temptation?
@IamdenisD “The same bible in Timothy when speaking about sexual temptation said flee. Adeboye hasnt said he doesn’t have female staffs he only said personal secretary.”
@Folorunshojunior “Pastor Adeboye is not accurate here and there’s NO bible verse that corroborates this. Rather than say this, a Pastor should admonish women to not lay false claim against men, as well as admonish men to not abuse women. It is “wise” to keep both men and women in check.”
@Dagreatfemi “Baba Adeboye spoke the reality of the day but I’m amused by how some peeps related it to Joseph’s story. Joseph fled like baba advised and still went to jail. “
@Tiwa_kad “If the devil comes to you face to face; stand and fight. Resist him and he will flee.Wheb faced with youthful lust, FLEE.Pastor Adeboye I Stan.”
@Biyatife “I wish Pastor Adeboye will preach on the concepts of consent and Sexual abuse. Why does the church shy away from talking about sex?
“Rather than demonizing sex or ignoring it, why not educate people so they go about it the right away. I wish someone will tell him this.”
@Tonydoo_visuals “When Pastor Adeboye said he’s never had a private female secretary, is he actually trying to say that those bosses who have a female secretary might also be guilty of the subject matter currently disturbing the Nigerian social ecosystem?
@Ogbeni_Skrtel “Pastor Adeboye has given me another reason to believe what the elders see sitting down, the young cannot see it even on a mountain top. Without mentioning name, he passed his messages accurately and admonished young ministers of God. Wisdom resides with the elders.”
@Onahi12 “What an old man sees sitting down, a young man cannot see standing up” Pastor Adeboye as said it all. It would be surprising if someone finds his statement offensive.”
