Four notable youths of the Ota Ona community in Ikorodu were on Tuesday granted N100, 000 bail each by Magistrate A. Oshodi-Makanju for allegedly stealing bags of cement valued at N200, 000. The four accused persons, who appeared before the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court IV, were also directed by the magistrate to produce one responsible surety each.
Oshodi-Makanju further ordered that the sureties provide “proof of employment, payment of tax, addresses and other qualifications” which must be verified by the registrar and prosecutor.
The accused are two brothers, Adediran Badmus, 34, and Adejuwon Badmus, 21, with two of their friends, Shitta Abolare, 29, and Ibiyemi Abiodun, 29.
The four accused, however, pleaded not guilty, saying that the allegations against them were fabricated.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Kemi Adeniran, had told the court that the accused committed the offences with others still at large on Feb. 11 at No. 45, Awolowo Way, Ota Ona area of Ikorodu.
Adeniran said the accused with their accomplices, still at large, committed felony by stealing bags of cement belonging to Alhaji Rasaq Olayiwola Onikosi between 9.00p.m. and 11.30p.m.
“They are being arraigned for stealing 135 bags of Dangote Cement, the property of Onikosi,” the prosecutor said during the proceedings.
According to the prosecutor, the offences are punishable under Sections 409 and 307 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011.
The case has been adjourned till March 3, for trial.
