Court sentences man to death for killing political opponent

A Jigawa state High Court sitting in Birnin Kudu on Thursday sentenced a 32-years-old man, Abu Uban Bakwalo to death by hanging for killing a political opponent.

Justice Ahmad Muhammad Abubakar sentenced Uban Bakwalo to death after finding him guilty of killing one Mohd Garzali over political differences before the 2015 general election.

He explained that the accused was charged with culpable homicide contrary to Section 221 of the Penal Code, punishable with death upon conviction.

Finding revealed that Uban Bakwalo used matchet to butcher Umar Garzali, wounded one Mohd Dan Jummai and destroyed a party vehicle.

The convict also confessed before the court that he committed the offences.
