Court saves sex-starved marriage

A 12-year-old marriage between one Azeez Idowu and his wife – Naimotu, was on Wednesday saved by an Igando Customary Court in Lagos from crashing, over lack of sex.

DAILY POST learnt that the Court President, Mr Hakeem Oyekan, was able to reconcile the couple after several adjournments and intrusions.

The defendant, Naimotu, 39 year old business woman, had told the court that she would continue to repudiate and starve her husband of sex until he had paid the debt he owed her.

She said, “I will continue to deny him sex until he pays back my money. He borrowed N690, 000 from me and has refused to pay. ’’

The mother of two went further to say her husband, Azeez, is in the habit of blasphemy and always cursing her with a charm called `Ishan egungun’.”

“This charm is a specifically prepared masquerade’s rod and it is disturbing my life,” she added.

The 45 year old Azeez, a businessman, had asked the court to dissolve the marriage over alleged sex denial by his wife.

“My wife does not want me to touch her at all, let alone making love to her, I am tired of the marriage. She goes out and doesn’t return after five or seven days.”

He continued, “My wife will go from one party to another and neglect the family at will. I have reported her severally to her father who always calls her to order, but there has been no positive change. She prefers to attend social activities than staying at home and be there for her family.”

Azeez further described his wife as a liar, unreliable and inconsistent in her words and actions.

He however recalled an incident, saying, “One day, my wife told me she was going to Mushin in Lagos State, but some hours later, someone called to tell me she was in Igbo-Ora in Oyo State; not like I was stalking her though but when I called her and told her about my findings, she switched off her cell phone.”

“I can’t even account for her movement any day any time,” he stated.

However, he pleaded with the court to dissolve the union since, saying he was no longer interested and did not love his wife any more.

Naimotu, while responding to her husband’s petition, urged the court not to grant her husband’s wish for the dissolution of their marriage, adding that she was still in love with him.

Court President who stuck the petition, urged the couple to maintain peace always.

“I admonish you both to go home and continue in love and peace,’’ he said.
