A student, identified as Usman Yakubu, was yesterday ordered by a Kado Grade 1 Area Court sitting in Abuja to be given six strokes of cane for stealing a pair of scandals.

Yakubu was arraigned before Justice Abubakar Sadiq on the charge of theft and was convicted after pleading guilty to the charges.

Sadiq urged the convict to stay away from crime, adding that a stiffer punishment will be handed down to him if he is arraigned before the court again.

While testifying before the court, the Prosecutor, Cpl. Friday Idi, said on March 9, one Usman Adbullahi of Tipper Garage in Gwarimpa Estate reported the offence committed by Yakubu.

According to Idi, Yakubu broke into the complainant‘s shop while he was away for evening prayers and made way with the sandals worth N4, 000, adding that the offence runs fowl of Section 287 of the Penal Code.
