A Minna Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded in prison a herdsman, Haruna Yakubu, for allegedly selling 13 of the cows put under his care without the owner’s consent and converted the proceeds to personal use.
Yakubu is facing trial on a two-count charge of criminal breach of trust and criminal misappropriation, contrary to Sections 312 and 309 of the Penal Code respectively.
The prosecutor, Insp. Abdullahi Maiyaki, had told the court that one Umar Farouk of Bosso Estate in Minna reported the matter at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Minna, on Dec.6, 2017.
Maiyaki said that Farouk had, in September 2017, entrusted Yakubu with 41 cattle to rear for him, only to discover in October that he had sold 13 out of them for N1.5m without Maiyaki’s consent.
Maiyaki also alleged that Yakubu converted the proceeds from the sales of the cows to his personal use and absconded.
He said that the police arrested the accused in Bida Local Government Area of the state.
Yakubu pleaded guilty to the charge and begged for leniency.
The presiding magistrate, Hassan Mohammed, however, reserved the review of facts and sentencing until Jan.15. (NAN)
