A Federal High Court, sitting in Kano, has ordered that former governor of the Jigawa State, Sule Lamido and his two sons, Aminu and Mustapha, be remanded in Kano Prison till September 28 when application for their bail will be heard.

Lamido and his two sons have been accused of receiving bribe amounting to N1.35 billion from government contractors as the then governor of Jigawa State.

At the hearing, the presiding judge, Justice Evelyn Anyadike ordered that the ex-governor, his sons and one of his aides, Aminu Mustapha, be remanded in the Kano Prison despite a plea from their counsel that they should be transferred to the EFCC cell in Abuja or Kano.

The plea by their counsel was objected by the EFCC lawyer, who argued that cells in both Kano and Abuja could no longer take more people.

In her judgement, Justice Evelyn Anyadike ruled that Lamido and his sons be remanded in Kano Prison following the claims by the counsel to the anti-graft agency that the Abuja penitentiary was overcrowded.
