A Magistrates’ court sitting in Osogbo, the Osun State capital, on Thursday remanded a 70-year-old man, Oyedeji Sunday, for lodging a complaint at a police station that his son, Ayo, was kidnapped, which turned out to be false.
He was arraigned on a 5-count charge bothering on giving false information, breach of peace and threat to life among others.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Lamidi Rasak, the accused committed the offence in April, 2018 within Osogbo metropolis.
He said the septuagenarian also threatened the life of one Alhaji Morenikeji Sikiru, whom he falsely accused of kidnapping his son, adding that the accused eventually jumped bail before he was later rearrested.
Rasak explained that the offence committed contravened sections 517, 125 A (1), 249(D),85(5), 126(2) of the criminal code Cap 34 . Vol 11, laws of Osun State of Nigeria 2002.
Meanwhile, the defence counsel, Barr. S.O Popoola prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal term.
The Magistrate, Mrs Risikat Olayemi thereafter transferred the case to the Chief Magistrate Court, as she ordered the accused to be remanded in police custody pending the adjoined date of September 27.
