A 45-year-old woman, Amina Abubakar was on Friday remanded by a Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrate’s Court, Abuja for alleged fraud.
Amina, who was arraigned before Senior Magistrate Folashade Folarin, was denied bail for allegedly defrauding one Felicia Udogwu of PHCN, Maitama Abuja.
Amina, who stays at OAU Quarters in the Maitama area of Abuja, was arraigned on a three-count charge of criminal conspiracy, criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The prosecutor, Emmanuel Adoku, told the court that the complainant had in August 2010, bought a Toyota Rav 4 from Amina, worth one million naira but later discovered that the vehicle had an engine and electrical fault, which she informed the accused.
He said Amina following the complaint by Udogwu told her brother, one Abdulmalik Garba, now at large, to pretend to be a car dealer.
The prosecutor further stated that Garba and the accused collected the said car, with an additional N300,000 from the complainant, while promising to exchange it with a Toyota Corolla 2009 model, a promise they never kept.
Adoke stressed that the offences contravened Sections 97, 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against her.
The Senior Magistrate, Folashade Folarin consequently ordered the accused to be remanded in police custody while the case was adjourned till July 29, for hearing.
