Court orders PDP, INEC to recognise Andy Uba as candidate

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has directed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to recognize the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, faction in Anambra state led by Ejike Oguebego as the authentic party executive in the state.

Justice H.A Nganjiwa gave the ruling in a matter brought before it by the Oguebego faction and its flag bearer for the Governorship election in Anambra State, Senator Andy Uba.

Senator Uba and his group are challenging the primary election conducted by the Ken Emakaye-led faction which produced another candidate for the November 16 governorship election.

While, counsel to the Oguebego faction, Charles Onyebukwa expressed satisfaction with the ruling, legal representative of the Emeakaye group, Mecha Kalu said he was disappointed with the directive.

He, however expressed hope that justice would be done, stressing that “our position is that we have questioned the jurisdiction of the court to hear the matter but the court left that question unanswered and then went into injunction which we have fought against and you can see the trend of events.

“After giving the order of injunction the matter is almost as good as stale and we want the matter to continue to be heard so that the issue can be resolved”.

Meanwhile, the court has adjourned the matter to September 19 for mention.
