A Grade 1 Area Court in Aso Pada, Nasarawa State, on Tuesday discharged a 20-year-old student, Victoria Jdakwo, arraigned for allegedly stabbing her neighbour on the neck.

The Judge, Mr Albert Maga, discharged the defendant following an application by the prosecutor, Mr Agabi Auta, who said the parties had settled out of court.

“Having heard the prosecution’s application to discharge the case as a result of settlement reached by both parties in the matter, the case is hereby struck out,” Maga said.

The prosecutor informed the court that the complainant, Moses John, told him to withdraw the case because he had forgiven the defendant after her parents begged and took responsibility for the hospital bills.

“The First Information Report (FIR) is hereby struck-out and the defendant discharged of all criminal charges,” he added.

Jdakwo of Philips Academy Mararaba in Nasarawa state was arraigned on a two-count charge of criminal intimidation and causing grievous hurt.

She was alleged to have engaged the complainant in a fight and in the process used a broken bottle to stab him on the neck.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Sections 397 and 244 of the Penal Code.

Jdakwo had pleaded not guilty to the charge.
