An Ado-Ekiti Magistrate Court sitting in Ekiti state on Friday arraigned two men, Remi Odili and Stanley Obanor, over alleged impersonation.
The duo, aged 42 and 35 respectively, was arraigned on a two-count charge of impersonation and fraud.
They allegedly posed as officers of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF and collected salaries to the tune of N14m in the process.
According to the police prosecutor, Sergeant Oriyomi Akinwale, the accused committed the offence on January 2013 in Ado-Ekiti.
Akinwale said, “The accused unlawfully dressed and presented themselves as police officers; they also fraudulently obtained the sum of N14m as salary in the police force, whereas they were not police officers.
“They were dismissed officers from the police force some years ago,” the prosecutor added, noting that the offence contravenes Section 419 of the Criminal Code.
The Magistrate, Doyin Akosile, consequently ordered that the accused persons be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case to June 16, for mention.
