Court arraigns tricycle rider over assault on policemen


One Otus Ineh, a 37-year-old tricycle rider, has been arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court in Ogba, Lagos, for allegedly attacking a team of policemen.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Ezekiel Ayorinde told the court the incident happened in front of the Guarantee Trust Bank, Ogba branch, Lagos on March 17, 2016.

Ineh was said to have attacked one ASP Ayinde Adeyemi and his team from the Oke-Ira Police Post when he was challenged for stopping at the front of the bank.

The Prosecutor said Ineh called his friends in the area, who joined him to fight the policemen.

He was arraigned on four counts bordering on obstruction.

The charges read in part, “That you, Otus Ineh, on March 17, 2016, at the front of GTB, Ogba, Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did assault, resist and obstruct ASP Ayinde Adeyemi and police officers attached to Oke-Ira Police Post, while performing their lawful duty, when parked at the front of the bank to pick passengers.

“The offences are punishable under sections 172 (b), 299, 166 (1) (d) and 96 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011,” Ayorinde said.

The chief magistrate, Mrs. E. Ikubeije granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

Ikubeije adjourned the case till April 20 for mention.
