An Apapa Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos, Thursday, arraigned a 56-year-old man, Mathew Etukidem, for allegedly defrauding one Chidi Oti to the tune of N3 million.
The prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, told the court that the accused committed the offences on September 10, 2013, at Apapa area of the state, stating that Etukidem, is a resident of Ajegunle area of the state.
He said that Etukidem with others at large, conspired and collected N3 million from the complainant, with a promise to help him secure a contract from former President Goodluck Jonathan.
“The accused, instead of securing the contract as promised, converted the money to his personal use.
“When Oti did not get a feedback from the accused, he decided to confront him and ask for his money.
“The complainant said that the accused refused to refund his money when he requested for it,” the prosecutor stated, adding that the offences contravened the provision of Sections 285, 312 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused who is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money under false pretence, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Senior Magistrate, Mr Titus Abolarinwa, adjourned the case till January 27 and granted the accused bail in the sum of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
