The legal battle over the Olubadan of Ibadanland stool is far from over as an Ibadan High Court at the weekend adjourned the case filed by the Seriki Chiefs against Oba Saliu Adetunji, to February 24.
The Seriki Chiefs that include Chiefs Adebayo Oyediji, Olalekan Fakunle, Rashidi Abinupagun and Gabriel Kofoworola, had gone to court to seek an enforcement of the 1989 judgement that the Seriki line be included in the lines to produce the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
At the resumed hearing of the case, counsel to the claimants, Mr. Abideen Adediran urged the court to fix a date for hearing for the case which he said was instituted in 2007.
According to him, the case was adjourned at the last sitting at the instance of the defendant’s counsel, lamenting that while he is in court, the defendant’s counsel, Mr. Michael Lana, apart from not present in court, did not send anyone to represent him.
He said, “It is quite unfortunate that the defendant has continued to use every ploy to prolong this case. We started this case in 2007, which is 10 years ago and we are yet to move beyond this stage, what this means is that the defendant want to delay the case as long as possible”.
Justice Oladiran Akintola who presided over the case, however, said the court will give the defendant another chance, stating that rather than give a date for hearing, he will agree on a short date for the mention of the case again.
He then adjourned the matter till February 24 for mentioning, noting that whether the defendant appear on that day or not, the court will go ahead to fix a date for the hearing of the case.
