A former Lagos State commissioner of police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has called for the removal of immunity enjoyed by state governors.
According to him, such will go a long way in reducing corruption in Nigeria.
He told Daily Trust that while President Muhammadu Buhari was doing much to fight corruption, it would reduce “if governors are stripped of their immunity.”
“And if that is done, then we can fight corruption very well. As it is now, they (governors) are the people involved in corruption.
“When there is any case involving people close to them, they go and use money to bribe their way.
“And when they (governors) are involved in cases of corruption, you cannot investigate and take them to court because of immunity. Governors must be stripped of their immunity to stop corruption.”
Citing an instance, Tsav said: “When somebody is involved in a police case, the governors would call the commissioner of police and tell him not to take action about it, and the commissioner will comply.”
