Coquelin stalls on new Arsenal contract

Francis Coquelin will delay putting pen to paper on a new Arsenal, until he is sure of his role in the team.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger revealed on Friday, that his compatriot has been offered a contract extension – the 23-year-old’s deal expires in the summer.

According to Sunday People Sport, Coquelin is happy with the terms of the new deal and is keen on staying at the Emirates. But the defensive midfielder will need assurances in the coming weeks, that Wenger sees him as a regular starter, before committing himself to the club.

Jack Wilshere is ahead of his return to the team, after recovering quickly from ankle ligament damage and his return might as well determine Coquelin’s future.

Coquelin moved to Arsenal in 2008, but has spent time on loan at Lorient and SC Freiburg. He was recently recalled from his loan spell at Championship side Charlton this month.
