Copa del Rey: Ronaldo scores brace, as Barcelona are dumped out

Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice at the Camp Nou, as Real Madrid overpowered Barcelona to qualify for the final of the Copa del Rey.

Jose Mourinho‘s men came into the tie, with their chances of qualifying for the final hanging by a thread, after a 1-1 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu. However, as early as the 13th minute, Ronaldo’s run into the box was illegally halted and the referee pointed to the spot.

The Portuguese forward stepped up and smashed in the first goal of the contest. The 28-year-old added a second, as Barcelona tried to string together passes and penetrate Mourinho’s well organised defence.

Angel Di Maria left Carles Puyol biting the grass, but his effort was palmed away by Pinto into Ronaldo’s path. He controlled the ball calmly on his chest and tucked it into the net.

Raphael Varane headed in the third, to end the game as a contest, before Jordi Alba’s consolation goal.

Real Madrid will now face either Sevilla or Atletico Madrid in the final.
