Controversy over Osinbajo’s title a mere distraction – Lai Mohammed

Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed has said that the controversy generated from President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter to the National Assembly is a mere distraction.

Mohammed stated this while speaking to State House correspondents at the end of the weekly meeting of the Federal Executive Council presided over by the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo.

In the letter read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday, Buhari said the vice-president would “coordinate the activities of the government” in his absence.

When the President first travelled to the UK in January, he wrote that the Osinbajo would “perform the duties of my office” while he was away.

“I think it is a needless controversy and just a distraction. The operative sentence is ‘in compliance with Section 145 Subsection 1.’ So, any other word is irrelevant,” Mohammed said.

Osinbajo, who presided over his first meeting as Acting President since Buhari left the country on Sunday, declared the meeting open at about 10am.
