Conte says Chelsea will appeal Terry’s red card

Chelsea manager, Antonio Conte has hinted that they will appeal the red card John Terry was shown, in their 4-1 win over Peterborough in the FA Cup on Sunday.

It was Terry’s first start in any competition since October and it ended with referee Kevin Friend sending him off in the 67th minute, after a foul on lee Angol.

The Blues were already three goals up, thanks to Pedro, Michy Batshuayi and Willian. Tom Nichols pulled one back for the League One side, but Pedro scored again to settle the tie.

Conte was frustrated to see his team play out the closing stages with 10 men.

“I think the decision wasn’t right,” he said afterwards.

“Firstly, he didn’t take the opponent and secondly behind John was [Branislav] Ivanovic to cover.

“It’s a pity when this happens. When you get a red card it’s not good, you have to respect the referee’s decision, but in this case maybe we will appeal because the situation is very clear, John didn’t deserve this.”
