The controversy surrounding the ongoing constitution amendment that pitched President Goodluck Jonathan and the National Assembly has finally been settled.
The settlement followed a directive by a seven-man Supreme Court panel headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, that the lawyers to both parties facilitate a settlement between their clients, while adjourning the matter to today, Wednesday.
The court had then adjourned till Wednesday for report of settlement.
Briefing the court at the resumed hearing today, the counsel for the Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Bayo Ojo, SAN, and Chief Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, who represented the National Assembly, informed the panel that both parties made concessions before arriving at a settlement. The court thereby adjourned till 4pm on Wednesday so that the plaintiff, the Federal Government, can file a notice of discontinuance of the suit.
Attempts by journalist to make the lawyers to the parties comment on the terms of settlement were rebuffed; as they insisted they cannot give details on the terms of settlement and notice of discontinuance.
