Confusion ensued in Osogbo, the Osun State capital after residents of the area discovered the floating corpse of a toddler on the Osun River.
It was gathered that the corpse was sighted by some students, who were going home from school on Wednesday evening.
Punch reports that some secondary school students gathered at the popular Osun River bridge gazing at an object floating on the water.
The source, Israel Olajide, said there was confusion at the scene of the incident as some people thought the corpse was headless until she was brought out of the river with every part of her body intact.
The leader of the fire fighters, Mr. Ademola Lukman, who arrived at the scene said they could not confirm whether the girl was dead or not because they were not medical doctors.
He said, “We were called from our headquarters at Abere that a girl fell into the river very close to Aregbe Bus stop and immediately we left for the scene.
“We used our line and craft net to evacuate her from the river and we cannot say if she is dead or alive because we are not doctors.”
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Babawale Afolabi, when contacted said the command was aware of the incident but yet to identify the parents of the deceased.
