There was uncertainty in Kano on Wednesday over the purported resignation of Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s deputy, Hafiz Abubakar.
DAILY POST reports that speculations were rife in the afternoon that the academic and a Professor in Nutrition at Bayero University Kano, had decided to leave office.
Abubakar has been under pressure from the governor’s loyalists to resign or face impeachment.
According to them, Abubakar had refused to shift allegiance from former Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso to Ganduje, hence he should quit.
But responding, an associate of the deputy governor described news of the “resignation” as “unfounded”.
“It is not true. Nothing like that for now. Prof Abubakar is Kano State deputy governor as we speak”, he told DAILY POST.
Meanwhile, the state government has lambasted Abubakar over his alarm that there was threat to his life.
In a petition dated 30th July, 2018 and addressed to Kano State police commissioner and copied to the Assistant Inspector General in charge of Zone I, and state director of the SSS, Abubakar sought deployment of more security personnel around him.
He said state government has released funds to mobilise youths from the 44 local government areas of the state to protest against his stay in office.
