Confusion at NASS as whereabouts of Saraki, Ekweremadu unknown

It is an unsafe time for the country’s lawmakers as early this morning heavily armed security operatives besieged the residences of both the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu.

It is even said that the whereabouts of Saraki is largely unknown.

It could be recalled that midnight yesterday, the police high command invited Saraki to appear before it for questioning over alleged murder allegation that happened in Kwara, his home state.

Also, with the residences of the two key principal officers of the Senate under siege, the hallowed chamber is unlikely to hold plenary today.

Political pundits attribute the whole development as a political scheming by the presidency to forestall the grand plan by the lawmakers who are members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, from defecting en masse to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, today.

Meanwhile, there is uneasy calm in the National Assembly as many of the lawmakers are seen in groups meeting to find a way out of the looming political impasse.
