Confusion as two APGA chairmen emerge in Delta

Two chairmen have emerged in the Delta state chapter of the All Progressive Grand Alliance,APGA, thereby, heating up the already tensed situation in the party.

A faction led by Tony Ebonka on Tuesday in Asaba insisted that there were no factions of the party in the state, describing one Nwokobia, who had earlier said he was the chairman of the party in the state as an impostor. Nwokobia, had in a statement stated that he was the chairman and castigated the Independent National Electoral Commission,INEC,for recognising Victor Umeh as the national chairman of the beleaguered party.

He and his team also pledged loyalty to the national leadership led by Maxi Okwu, maintaining that the convention that produced Okwu was authentic.

But rising from the State Executive Council, Ebonka said there were no factions in APGA as far as Delta State was concerned, adding that it was wrong for anybody to declare himself as chairman.

“We are the recognised state APGA. We support the national leadership of Victor Umeh and Sani Shinkafi as chairman and secretary respectively. We are not wavering in our support; we are solidly behind them. Nwokobia is not a member in this state; we don’t even know him; he is impersonating,” he said.

‘’We in Delta State wish to inform the unsuspecting public that there is no faction of the party in the state, we have no division. If anybody wants to be member of APGA, he should come and register and not to sneak into the state calling yourself chairman, that is chairman without party.”

On why the party has not arrested the said Nwokobia for impersonation, the legal adviser, Ted Chukwu, said though it was an offence, the party would not resort to force but on the principle of rule of law to achieve its objective.

“We are registered with INEC and if you go there, you will see our names clearly etched in the papers of political parties. The man who is gallivanting and calling himself state chairman has no basis and like floating debris, the wind will drive him into oblivion,

“And we also believe that time will play itself out. We know ourselves; in fact there were previous chairmen before this present one. Late Ogbueshi Nda was a chairman before this chairman. APGA has been existing in the state,” Chukwu stated
